Coordinating a building, not standing in one

Facility security is what happens when a site outgrows a single guard: multiple entry points, several floors, a car park, a loading dock, plant rooms — and a team that has to function as one system rather than a handful of individuals standing in different places.

The failure mode is coordination, not coverage

Four guards in a building without coordination are four separate single-guard deployments. Each covers his own point, none has a picture of the building, and an incident at the loading dock is invisible at the front desk.

This is why adding guards to a struggling site often changes nothing. The problem was never headcount.

What makes it a system

• A shift supervisor — one person who holds the picture and makes the call. Without this, you have staff, not a security function.
• Radio discipline — a defined protocol, not chatter.
• Defined zones with defined responsibilities, and a rule for what happens when someone leaves theirs.
• A single incident log for the building, not four notebooks.
• Documented escalation — who is called, in what order, for what.

The zones people forget

Lobbies get watched. The dock, the plant rooms, the stairwells, the roof access and the car park do not — and they are how buildings are actually entered. Roving cover between static posts is usually the efficient answer.

Integration with what you already have

Most facilities already have cameras, and most cameras are watched by nobody. A guard team without a defined relationship to the CCTV system is duplicating effort and missing the thing the cameras already caught.
