A predictable patrol is worse than no patrol

Perimeter patrol covers the outer boundary — fence lines, external walls, gates, yards, the approach. It is the cheapest way to cover a large footprint, and the easiest to render worthless.

The failure is timing, not effort

A patrol that runs at 22:00, 00:00, 02:00 and 04:00 every night is, after a fortnight of observation, a published timetable. Anyone watching your site — and anyone intending to enter it will watch first — now knows they have a clean 110-minute window.

You are paying for four patrols and receiving a schedule of when not to bother turning up. This is worse than no patrol, because it creates confidence that the site is covered.

What a real perimeter patrol requires

• Randomised timing, varied nightly. Non-negotiable.
• Varied direction and entry point — a patrol that always runs clockwise from the north gate is also a pattern.
• Verifiable logging — GPS or checkpoint-scanned, timestamped. A signature on a clipboard proves nothing and everyone involved knows it.
• Documented findings — a hole in the fence, a broken light, a gate left open. The patrol's real product is information about your perimeter, not the walk itself.

What perimeter patrol will not do

It will not stop a determined intruder who has watched the site. It deters the opportunist, catches the fence breach before it is used, and gets you told about it. That is a real and cost-effective service — but if your perimeter protects genuinely high-value assets, patrol is a supplement to a manned post, not a substitute for one.

Ask for the logs

Request last month's patrol logs from any provider — including us — and look at the timestamps. If they cluster to the hour, you have found a patrol that is not really happening.
